Newcastle Airport launches Toronto flights - for 17th yearWeekly flights from Newcastle Airport to Toronto in Canada have been launched - for the 17th time.

The flights, which are on offer with Air Transat, will run between May and September 2010.

It is the 17th year that there have been flights from the north-east to the Canadian city.

Graeme Mason, head of planning and corporate affairs at Newcastle International Airport, said: "This prestigious service linking Newcastle with Toronto is important for our region, which is why we are continuing to support and work closely with our partners at Canadian Affair to make it a success."

He added that a large number of Canadians were likely to travel into the region on the flight.

Kathryn Munro, communication and marketing director at Canadian Affair, commented that they had been informed by north-east travellers that they liked their service direct from Newcastle instead of travelling through other airports.

Toronto is a popular destination for Brits, it is famous for its CN Tower and its proximity to Niagara Falls.
