Liquids ban to be lifted

It is widely reported that the Government will lift the current ban on liquids such as toothpaste, perfumes and other personal hygiene products being carried on to aircraft in hand luggage.

The ban on liquids in hand luggage which was imposed as a security measure, following the alleged trans-atlantic plane plot earlier in the year, is due to be lifted in November.

A new europe wide plan to be approved next week, will allow passengers to carry on containers with up to 100ml of liquid as long as the container is made of transparent plastic.

Since the restrictions were introduced in August, passengers departing from UK airports to all destinations excluding the U.S.A. have been able to carry on liquids that have been purchased after they have passed through the security areas.

All carry on luggage was also banned, which in turn lead to huge queues at airports and subsequent flight delays and cancellations.

This rule was relaxed after a couple of days and passengers were allowed to take one small item of hand luggage on to their flight, again this has been reviewed quite recently, with the Dept. of Transport announcing last week that larger bags would be allowed on as personal hand luggage.
