Baggage restrictions eased
It is reported that the Government is to increase the size of the one piece of luggage still only allowed on aircraft as hand luggage that passengers are allowed to carry on from Friday 22nd Sep.
The revised maximum size of hand luggage will, it is understood, increase to that of a small roller-suitcase.
A host of airlines have blamed the imposed limits for causing huge delays with some airlines threatening to take legal action against the government for compensation.
Most musical instruments can also be brought on as hand luggage, but liquids still remain under strict prohibition rules.
The government's transport division was in talks with the aviation industry earlier this week and it is believed that the changes may have been as a result of those discussions.
Although the Transport department has been quoted as saying the revision of baggage size was designed to "lessen the burden on passengers" they also state that it will not affect the very rigorous security system in place at all UK airports.
All departing passengers are still however advised to allow extra time for security checks ahead of their flights.
British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Ryanair are amongst those airlines that will without doubt welcome the news. For further information click here
