Swayze extends West End run

News that will no doubt delight the legions of Patrick Swayze fans, is that he has added a two-week extension to his role of Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls.

This now means that Swayze, who was originally due to finish playing the role of Nathan Detroit at the Piccadilly Theatre on the 23rd of September 2006, will extend his run to the 7th October 2006 and that he will now be in London when the stage version of the hit movie Dirty Dancing starts previewing on the 29th of September. Dirty Dancing officially opens on the 24th of October 2006 at the Aldwych Theatre.

Patrick Swayze's current co-star in Guys and Dolls, Claire Sweeney, who plays Miss Adelaide, is due to leave the West End production on the 9th of Septmber, before commencing a U.K. tour of the musical nine days later. Sweeney's replacement has yet to be announced.

Housewives favourite Swayze, made his London stage debut in Guys and Dolls on the 27th July. Although he was originally due to join co-stars Adam Cooper (Sky) and Kelly Price (Sarah Brown) on the 10th of July. However his start date was delayed after it was announced that he unfortunately needed more time to recover from a chest infection.

Patrick Swayze is probably best known for the starring roles in "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost". His stage credits so far include playing Billy Flynn in Chicago and Danny Zuko in Grease, both on Broadway.

Michael Grandage's revival of Frank Loesser's classic musical originally opened on the 1st of June 2005, with Ewan McGregor of Moulin Rouge, Star wars and Trainspotting fame, playing alongside Jane Krakowski as Sky Masterson and Miss Adelaide.

The original Broadway production of Guys and Dolls opened at the 46th Street Theatre in November 1950, running for over a thousand performances before closing three years later. Among the premiere cast then were Robert Alda as Sky Masterson, Isabel Bigley as Sarah Brown, Sam Levene as Nathan Detroit and Vivian Blaine as Miss Adelaide. Vivien Blaine went on to re-create her role in the 1955 film, The film version starred Marlon Brando as Sky, Jean Simmons as Sarah Brown and Frank Sinatra as Nathan Detroit.
