Flying over the Bank Holiday Weekend
British Airports Authority (BAA) which operates Heathrow, Stanstead, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gatwick, Aberdeen and Southampton airports, announced yesterday (23rd August 2006) that it plans to operate a full flight schedule from all it's airports over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
It also urges passengers to abide by the following advice:
- Arrive at your departure airport no more than three hours before your flight is due to depart, arriving earlier will not speed up your journey and can add to delays.
- Please encourage family and friends not to enter the terminal to see you off - as this can add to congestion.
- Pack one item of hand luggage only. This must not exceed 16x35x45 in dimension. DO NOT PACK ANY LIQUID or LIQUID GELS as these will NOT BE ALLOWED through security, except for prescription medicines and baby food, both of which will have to be tasted by the passengers to verify they are genuine.
- Lap tops and large electrical items must be removed from your hand luggage at security.
- Pushchairs and walking aids are permitted but must be X-ray screened. Wheelchairs are also permitted but will be thoroughly searched.
- Before security: All shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers, but any liquids or gels purchased must be packed into your luggage for check-in. Any other purchases must fit in to your hand luggage.
- Once through security: All shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers. If you are travelling to any destination except the USA you can take all items purchased in the departures lounge in to the aircraft cabin.
- If you are travelling to the USA: Extra restrictions are in place. Passengers will be searched a second time at the gate. NO toiletries or cosmetics purchased in the departure lounge will be allowed into the aircraft cabin and any drinks or liquid items must be consumed before boarding. Food IS allowed.
- If you are in any doubt or have any queries regarding the rules, please ask a member of the Airport staff for clarification prior to joining the security queue.
