Smoking plane 'causes evacuation' at Edinburgh Airport

Smoking plane 'causes evacuation' at Edinburgh AirportThere were dramatic scenes at Edinburgh Airport earlier today when passengers were evacuated from a smoking plane.

All crew and 24 passengers were led away from the Loganair aircraft after one of its engines began smoking just minutes before it was due to take-off.

The flight had been bound for the Isle of Man from the BAA owned Edinburgh hub.

A spokesperson for the Scottish carrier Loganair, said: "The engines and electrical systems were immediately shut down by the crew and, as a precautionary measure, the 24 passengers and three crew members were evacuated."

The airline released an apology to all passengers who were affected by the incident.

"Loganair would like to offer its sincere apologies to all customers whose journeys have been disrupted by this incident."

Earlier this month there was panic at Edinburgh Airport when an Air France jet suffered problems on the runway, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

This happened just weeks before an Air France crashed over the Atlantic Ocean with 228 people on board.
