Manchester Airport flooded by red army
Thousands of Manchester United fans have begun to descend on Manchester Airport to begin their journey to Rome for the Champions League Final.Passengers who wanted to avoid drop-off queues at the international hub could book car parking online before they travelled.
The airport had brought in extra staff to work on Tuesday and Wednesday when 44 flights were scheduled to depart for Rome ahead of the match between Manchester United and Barcelona tonight.
Andrew Cornish, managing director at Manchester Airport, said they were expecting to be very busy.
"We will be working closely with the airlines over the next days to meet the demand for flights and are committed to making the fans' journey as simple and enjoyable as possible," he added.
More than 30,000 fans are expected to travel to Rome for the match.
There was some excitement yesterday when the first of the Manchester United WAGs travelled through the airport.
Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen was photographed as she arrived at the terminal, as was Ryan Giggs' wife Stacey, Wes Brown's wife Leanne and Michael Carrick's wife Lisa.
