Patrick Swayze West End Debut
Patrick Swayze is set to make his West End debut in Guys and Dolls. The actor, who was announced to star as Nathan Detroit in the musical at the Piccadilly Theatre on July 10 but delayed due to a chest infection resulting in missed rehearsals, will now join the show on Thursday July 27. Patrick Swayze, who was trained as a dancer, appeared in Chicago on Broadway (he also appeared on the American tour). A three-time Golden Globe nominee, he is probably best known as a star of the silver screen. Although he had small film roles before the 1987 film Dirty Dancing which made him a household name.
His subsequent film credits include the equally well received Ghost, Road House, Steel Daen, Next of Kin, Point Break, City of Joy, To Wong Foo, Donnie Darko,Three Wishes, and Waking Up in Reno. He reprised the role of Johnny Castle in the Dirty Dancing sequel, Dirty Dancing Havana Nights, made in 1984.
Patrick Swayze's run in Guys and Dolls was due to finish at the start of September, but it has been extended to September 23 to make up for the missing dates. His co-star Claire Sweeney, who plays Miss Adelaide, joined the show as scheduled earler in July. She has been performing opposite Andrew Playfoot until Swayze's arrival. Guys and Dolls is directed by Michael Grandage.
