Improvements start at Blackpool Airport
Work on a major investment to improve Blackpool Airport is up and running, officials have announced.Balfour Beatty, which owns the airport, has invested £2.5 million into boosting its performance and appearance both inside and out.
New runway surface covering more than 250,000 square feet is being laid at a cost of around £1 million, with the rest of the money being used to update various facilities.
Sue Kendrick, head of communications at Blackpool International Airport, told the Blackpool Gazette that "everything is going to plan".
"So far around 180 metres of new surface has been laid, new sewage facilities put in place and the widening of the apron has been started," she said.
"From the moment we close the airport at night until around 4am staff at Colas have been working flat out to get the runway ready for traffic the following day."
New flights between Blackpool and the Isle of Man are set to commence from May.
