Ryanair celebrates 2008 figures
Low-cost Irish airline Ryanair has announced positive figures for last year, despite the global economic downturn.Ryanair reported a rise of eight million passengers in the previous year, with the airline carrying 58 million people on its services during 2008, which is an increase of 18 per cent on 2007.
Stephen McNamara, of Ryanair, said that the airline is aiming to carry over 65 million passengers in 2009 as more passengers will be attracted to low fares in the tough economic times.
"Ryanair continues to attract millions of passengers with our guaranteed lowest fares and no fuel surcharges while also delivering Europe's number one on time performance, fewest lost bags and least cancelled services," he added.
The airline confirmed it carried in excess of five million passengers in a single month for the first time in May, while August saw its busiest period with 5.7 million passengers.
Ryanair flies to destinations across Europe from a number of UK locations, including Belfast Airport in Northern Ireland.
