Free parking introduced at Blackpool Airport
Passengers flying from Blackpool next year will be able to take advantage of free airport parking facilities.Bosses at the northern gateway announced that from January 5th 2009, people using Blackpool Airport will be able to park their car free of charge for up to 15 days as part of an initiative which aims to attract more passengers to the hub.
The airport parking scheme will be funded by the introduction of a £10 Airport Development Fee (ADF) payable at the hub for all departing passengers aged over 16.
Chief executive David Kershaw said that Blackpool will be the only international hub in the UK to offer free airport parking.
"We want to encourage people from across Lancashire and the Lake District to use their own, local airport and by attracting more passengers we hope to be able to sustain and increase routes and frequency and to improve the airport's offering to our passengers," he added.
Blackpool Airport revealed that it will invest £2 million to improve its runways and customer facilities.
