Passengers hit by baggage glitch
A large numbers of passengers have been separated from their baggage due to a computer fault at Heathrow Airport, it has been reported. According to the Telegraph, almost 50 passengers on one flight BA316 from Heathrow Terminal 5 were told that their bags were still in the UK due to a glitch in the computer system which tracks baggage and links it to passengers all over Europe.
British Airways (BA) staff said the problem was "Europe-wide", as Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport and Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport also reported problems.
This is not the first time passengers have experienced problems at Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport and BA have been quick to improve the facility's reputation.
Initial problems at the new terminal were responded to with a direct advertising campaign by BA displaying recently-taken images and up-to-date statistics to show that "Terminal 5 is working", in order to reassure passengers.
Heathrow Terminal 5 opened in March 2008, at a cost of more than £4 billion.
