Luton Airport will benefit from new airline

Luton Airport will benefit from new airlineNew business-oriented services from Luton Airport to the Netherlands will be of value to the entire region, an expert has said.

Dutch carrier Transavia will operate twice-daily flights to Rotterdam in the Netherlands from October 27th.

Richard Lacy, chief executive of the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce, commented on the development, saying: "The addition of Transavia to London Luton Airport's portfolio of carriers is a real boost for the airport."

He added: "This is good not only for Luton and Bedfordshire but for the region as a whole, as the airport contributes massively to our local and regional economy in terms of job and wealth creation."

Expectations are that the new service, which will operate on a fleet of Boeing 737s, should carry over 130,000 passengers a year.

The timings of the flight schedules would allow for a full business day in between, which will help Luton Airport establish itself as an important hub for business travel, according to Mr Lacy.

In 2007 Luton Airport was used by nearly ten million passengers, 85 per cent of whom travelled on international routes.
