Passengers will wait for sales

Passengers will wait for salesIn the current economic climate tourists are increasingly waiting for sales and special offers before booking flights, claims an industry insider.

With levels of spare cash reduced by inflation and the rising cost of credit, many airlines are seeking out business by offering their customers better deals.

According to James Fremantle, industry affairs manager for the Air Transport Users Council: "There's a lot of empty seats and they [airlines] need to fill their seats up.

"Now and again they have price sales just to fill up their empty aircraft so obviously the overall number of passengers is going down because of the credit crunch because they [consumers] don't have the money to spend."

The expansion of British airports is a current hot topic, with discussions over the future of Gatwick Airport and a possible new runway at Heathrow Airport.

According to recent research by American Express, there is a marked decline in traffic across both business and leisure travel.
