Record month for Leeds/Bradford Airport

Record month for Leeds/Bradford AirportA record number of passengers passed through Leeds/Bradford Airport during August.

Some 345,000 passengers were handled by the Yorkshire hub last month, a five per cent rise on the previous year, which makes August the busiest time in the history of Leeds/Bradford Airport.

Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director, said: "Leeds Bradford International Airport continues to outperform the market and takes its lead from the strength of the Yorkshire economy."

Flights to Malaga and Dublin were the most popular as most passengers from Leeds/Braford Airport stayed within the eurozone.

"With our route network now at 76 destinations and still growing, the airport is delivering to both business and leisure passengers and increasing inbound tourism opportunities," Mr Hallwood added.

Leeds/Bradford Airport is reportedly one of the fastest growing airports in the UK as from May to August, more than 1.2 million people passed through the gateway.

The Yorkshire hub is currently in discussion with a number of airlines, on the prospect of further route expansion in 2009.
