Ryanair wants sale of Stansted Airport

Ryanair wants sale of Stansted AirportRyanair has called on BAA to sell Stansted Airport as it does not think the sale of Gatwick Airport goes far enough in fulfilling the recommendations of the Competition Commission (CC), according to reports.

The CC's inquiry has suggested that BAA's ownership of its several hubs should be broken up and Ryanair feels that along with the sale of Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport and one of the operator's Scottish airports should go too.

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary said: "Airlines and passengers have been abused for many years with high prices and abysmal service at all of the BAA's London and Scottish airports and the 'trick' of selling off Gatwick won't end this abusive monopoly."

The Association of British Travel Agencies (ABTA) has welcomed BAA's decision to sell Gatwick Airport as it feels it will improve passenger service at the hub.

Chief executive Mark Tanzer said: "Any new owner for Gatwick must be subject to proper ongoing regulation to ensure that they provide the level of investment and performance that a modern international airport requires."

BAA announced it would sell Gatwick Airport, the UK's second busiest hub, yesterday.
