Cardiff Airport is the most punctual

Cardiff Airport is the most punctualPassengers planning to travel through Cardiff Airport will be pleased to know that the hub has been named the most punctual in the UK, it has been reported.

According to new figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), in a performance survey of 75 airports, 87 per cent of flights departing from Cardiff Airport were on time.

Other high performers included Heathrow Airport and Bristol Airport, which had an average on time departure rate of 65.9 per cent and 72.4 per cent respectively.

Spencer Birns, head of aviation relations at Cardiff Airport, said: "By being a smaller airport we're able to ensure minimum check-in and security queues.

"Less queues and small distances to travel before arriving and also inside the terminal building mean passengers can travel through quicker, enabling flights to leave on-time."

Cardiff Airport also ranked highly in the shortest average delays category as the hub had an average delay time of 8.4 minutes, second only to a 7.3 minute average set by Leeds/Bradford Airport.

Mr Birns added that each of these factors "should encourage travellers to utilise their local airport" rather than travelling further afield to a larger national hub.
