Birmingham Airport figures show that 1,079,970 people used the hub in August making it only the second time ever that the airport has seen over a million passengers in one month.

Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport, told the Birmingham Post: "It is another record breaking month for the airport. Additionally, our rolling 12 month record of over 9.5 million passengers is definitely something to shout about."

Birmingham Airport recently announced deals with Turkish Airlines and Ryanair to provide new routes from the hub.
