New hotel for Durham Tees Valley Airport
Plans are afoot for a new addition to the number of airport hotels at Durham Tees Valley Airport, it has been reported.Peel Holdings, the owner of Durham Tees Valley Airport, unveiled plans for a three star airport hotel just 300 metres from the terminal building which would cost £8.5 million.
Kerry Quinn, Durham Tees Valley Airport director, said: "Passengers enjoy both the opportunity to sleep on the airport's doorstep before an early morning flight and also having a room to sleep in if they arrive late at night from a flight and this new facility will compliment opportunities at the airport and the surrounding area."
The new hotel will also include a bar, restaurant and meeting rooms as well as having a facility for 106 airport parking spaces.
Joe Docherty, chief executive of Tees Valley Regeneration, said: "Durham Tees Valley Airport is a gateway to the area and this hotel will help deliver the standard offer of a modern regional airport."
Darlington Council will consider the proposal from Peel Holdings in the near future.
