Exeter Airport celebrates record month
Exeter Airport has announced that August was the busiest month in the hub's 70-year history, according to reports. A record 114,600 passengers used the airport in August, a year-on-year increase of one per cent in passenger numbers in the month, while traffic on charter holiday routes rose by three per cent.
Jamie Christon, deputy managing director of Exeter Airport, said he was "absolutely delighted" with the figures and revealed that hotspots in the Canary Islands and the Balearics saw the most visitors.
"The most popular destinations from Exeter were Tenerife, Majorca, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria but there was a notable take up for the flights to Turkey and the twentieth year for our flights to Toronto have proved a great success," he said.
Mr Christon also pointed out that Exeter Airport achieved its strong figures despite difficulties in the economy and decreasing traffic at other gateways.
Exeter Airport saw 1,024,730 passengers pass through its gates in 2007, which was the first time over one million passengers have used the airport in a single year.
