Heathrow Airport notices transatlantic trend
An increasing number of passengers are flying to America from Heathrow Airport, according to reports.A spokesman for Heathrow Airport has said that the growing number of travellers taking flights to America from the hub has been a noticeable trend in the last year while short haul flights have been decreasing in popularity.
Damon Hunt, a spokesman for Heathrow Airport, said: "Heathrow Airport is at 99 per cent capacity all the time so it's difficult to spot significant trends. The biggest trend that we've noticed in the last 12 months is a strengthening in our transatlantic traffic, so more people going to the US, and a dropping off of short haul."
According to Mr Hunt, the growth in travel to America is probably due to the strength of the pound against the dollar.
"Definitely a lot more people heading to the US and potentially that is because of the exchange rate," he added.
Virgin Atlantic's clubhouse at Heathrow Airport has won the best business class lounge award in the SkyTrax world airline awards.
