Buses get new computers at Manchester Airport

Buses get new computers at Manchester AirportManchester Airport has installed Windows XP-based automotive computers in its air-side passenger buses in a bid to improve operations, it has been reported.

On-board computers are being used to transmit information back to Manchester Airport staff on the time and position of each bus when passengers board and disembark.

The system from In-CarPC will allow the data to be sent back in real-time via a high-speed 3G internet wireless link.

Manchester Airport will be using the information to prove that service level agreements with airlines have been met.

Christina Kelly, operations manager at Manchester Airport's bus transport department, said: "We initially piloted vehicle computers from two companies, one of which was In-CarPC. Their system was extremely reliable, and we found the company very quick to respond to our needs."

Manchester Airport recently launched an automatic number plate recognition airport parking scheme in a bid to combat car crime and tackle terrorism.
