Olympic heroes land at Heathrow Airport

Olympic heroes land at Heathrow AirportGreat Britain's triumphant Olympic team touched down safely at Heathrow Airport on Monday to a heroes welcome, according to reports.

The nation's most successful group of athletes for over 100 years flew back from Beijing to Heathrow Airport and were met by friends, family and a horde of noisy supporters.

The athlete's British Airway's plane had a special golden nose and was renamed Pride after the British Olympic lion mascot, while "Proud to bring our British heroes home" was emblazoned on the fuselage.

Team GB chief Simon Clegg said: "It's been a long campaign and the whole team are really pleased to be back home and very proud with what has been achieved. It's really difficult to gauge the mood of the public, but no one expected the level of this reception here."

Members of Team GB were given special treatment by the airplane's staff but many athletes reportedly turned down complimentary champagne in favour of apple juice.

Britain finished fourth in the Olympic medal table with a haul of 47 medals including 19 golds.
