London Gatwick Airport - Home of the World's Longest Passenger Bridge, Ever!
If you have flown from London Gatwick Airport in recent months you will have undoubtedly noticed the new passenger bridge that spans the airport's taxiway. But did you know that Gatwick's bridge is the longest airport bridge ever!
At 646 feet long and 72 feet high the new passenger bridge at Gatwick Airport eclipses its rival, Denver International Airport's pedestrian bridge, by a massive 282 feet in length.
Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects, this ambitious engineering project forms part of major redevelopment initiative currently underway at the UK's second busiest single-runway airport. Watching a Boeing 747 pass under this modern landmark is an impressive sight but in practical terms the bridge now connects the 11 gates of the North Terminal satellite extension. A reduction of some 52,000 bus journey's from terminal to plane is expected in the first year of the bridge's operation, great in terms of convenience for passengers but the decline in bus usage also has significant advantages for the environment.
If you're flying from Gatwick this year then why not take advantage of the great rate's available on FHR's website. Book secured airport parking near Gatwick and save on the gate price or if you have an early check-in then why not stay the night before at a hotel near to Gatwick Airport and get parking included in the rate.
