Luton Aiport launches car share scheme

Luton Aiport launches car share schemeLuton Airport employees are to share their cars as part of an environmentally-friendly initiative, Luton on Sunday has reported.

A new website called londonlutoncarshare.com has been unveiled which is dedicated to encouraging car-sharing between the airport's employees in order to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment.

Simon Earles, general manager of corporate social responsibility at Luton Airport, told the publication: "The car share website is just one of many initiatives that form part of the airport's ongoing commitment to improve surface access as set out in our Community Engagement Strategy published in January."

An online carbon calculator, featured on the website, allows people to see how much they have reduced their carbon emissions by as a result of car-sharing.

"At the airport we see relatively high levels of car usage and the launch of the website is a significant step towards reducing these levels amongst staff," Mr Earles told Luton on Sunday.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, nearly ten million passengers travelled through Luton Airport in 2007.

We work at the Airport and have car shared for over 18 months through www.isanyonegoingto.com in fact quite a few of us use the site.
I think the money spent on this site could of been used to provide additional parking for car share vehicles.
