More passengers use Aberdeen AirportAn increased number of passengers used Aberdeen Airport to fly to international destinations last month, it has been reported.

According to figures, there was a 1.3 per cent rise in the number of flyers traveling from the Scottish airport in June compared to the same month last year.

Overall 302,145 passengers used the third largest airport in Scotland during June which brings the total number of travelers that have departed from Aberdeen this year to 1.6 million.

Aberdeen Airport managing director Kevin Brown said: "With the summer schedule well underway, I am very pleased to see an increasing number of passengers now choosing to fly from their local airport to some of Europe's most popular sunshine destinations."

Barcelona saw the largest increase in visitors from the airport in June while Amsterdam, Stavanger and Paris were the most popular destinations.

Flights to the United States and the Caribbean could be possible from Aberdeen Airport after it lodged a planning application to extend its main runway by 300 metres, according to reports.
