Flybe boosts Manchester-Inverness route
Regional airline Flybe has announced an increase in capacity on its connections to Inverness Airport from Manchester Airport and Southampton. The carrier, which claims to be Europe's largest regional low-cost airline, is set to upgrade the aircraft used on these routes to a 78-seat Bombardier Q400.
This move effectively doubles the seat capacity on these services and has been confirmed following strong demand for the connections between southern England and northern Scotland.
Flybe only began operating the flights on May 8th and made the decision to upgrade the allocated planes to the Q400.
Mike Rutter, the airline's chief commercial officer, said it had been "bowled over" by the immediate success of the routes.
He added: "It's always been part of our plan to phase out the older aircraft inherited from our acquisition of BA Connect in March last year and replace them with our newer, more environmentally sensitive Q400s. We're delighted that these routes have proved so popular, enabling us to introduce them so much earlier than originally planned.
"This move shows that regional air travel continues to thrive and we remain committed to bringing affordable and convenient travel choice to Inverness."
