Direct Gatwick link 'to boost business in San Diego'
Zoom Airlines is set to launch direct flights from Gatwick Airport to San Diego in June, a development that is expected to benefit the city's convention industry. The San Diego Convention Centre is one of North America's largest conference venues, regularly attracting some of the most high-profile events and exhibitors from around the world.
Zoom's new flights between Gatwick and the California city will launch on a twice-weekly basis from June 20th, providing the only direct non-stop air service between Europe and San Diego.
The connection could prove useful for people travelling to the San Diego Comic-Con on July 24th-27th, a fan convention showcasing comics, graphic novels, films, TV shows and a range of other pop culture segments.
Lori Burke, marketing manager of Zoom Airlines, said the new flights are already proving popular, particularly for times close to busy exhibitions and conferences.
She added: "The San Diego [Convention] Centre is a spectacular venue and we are delighted to be offering UK events and meeting planners a direct low-cost service from London, and the whole of Europe.
"San Diego Comic-Con has a large worldwide following. We are offering affordable high quality travel ideal for those enthusiasts keen to travel to this year's event, as well as those looking to combine business with pleasure and enjoy the beachside location of San Diego."
