BAA welcomes chance to expand Edinburgh
Airport operator BAA has welcomed a new "strategic vision" for west Edinburgh that is set to provide land for the city's air hub to expand. The West Edinburgh Planning Framework reportedly endorsed plans for future development at Edinburgh Airport that were outlined in its 2006 'master plan'.
Land will be allocated to both the north and south of the airport, potentially enabling it to handle up to 23 million passengers a year by 2030.
The framework also contains proposals regarding the construction of new roads around Edinburgh, which could improve access for people using the hub's airport parking facilities.
David Johnston, managing director of the airport, said: "This new planning framework is good for Edinburgh and good for Scotland as a whole.
"It enables us to move forward with our ambitious and sustainable plans to grow Edinburgh Airport and to meet the needs of our increasing numbers of passengers."
