Norwegian service launched from Newcastle
Eastern Airways launched its first direct international service from Newcastle Airport today (May 12th), to the Norwegian destination of Stavanger.The carrier will serve the Scandinavian location every weekday from Newcastle.
Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city and is sharing the position of European Capital of Culture this year with Liverpool and Sandnes.
Eastern Airways offered a connection to the city via Aberdeen Airport prior to the launch of the non-stop Newcastle service.
Chris Holliday, the airline's chief operating officer, said: "We have provided travellers with a comprehensive network of domestic services from Newcastle for many years and our first non-stop international route from the airport links the vibrant north-east with the European culture capital."
The airline official claimed that this service is the fastest weekday link between the two cities and is set to appeal to both leisure and business customers.
Recent changes made to Eastern Airways' services at Newcastle Airport include an increase in frequency of flights to Aberdeen Airport, Southampton and Cardiff Airport.
