New cast for Lion King

New cast for Lion KingSmash hit West End musical The Lion King has announced a number of changes to its cast.

As part of the production's annual reshuffle of its line-up of performers, 13 new cast members have joined, including new actors in the lead roles of Mufasa, Simba and Scar.

Mufasa will be played by Shaun Escoffery, who received an Olivier Award nomination for his part in Parade at the Donmar Warehouse and has also appeared in Les Miserables and Tommy.

George Asprey, who recently played Billy Flynn in the UK tour of Chicago, will fill the role of Scar, while Gloria Onitiri will return to the Lion King as Nala, having previously appeared in the show in 2002.

The Lion King arrived in the West End in September 1999 and received glowing reviews from the press.

Since then, some seven million people have seen the musical at the Lyceum Theatre, with other versions on show in New York, Paris, Hamburg and Tokyo.
