Many travellers 'not interested in exploring'
The majority of British people on package holidays are more interested in relaxing in their resort than exploring the area that they are visiting, according to a new survey.Research by Halifax found that all-inclusive package trips are still popular in the UK, with one in ten Britons taking a holiday of this type to an exotic location every year.
However, these travellers reportedly spend an average of just seven hours outside their hotel complex during their holiday, meaning that three-quarters of holidaymakers never make any effort to speak the local language.
Even modern tourist attractions such as water and theme parks do not appear to interest package holiday customers, with 70 per cent never visiting such locations.
Paul Birkhead of Halifax said: "Our research strongly suggests that the idea of a holiday, to most, is a room with pool and somewhere to eat.
"Package holidays such as all-inclusive [trips] allow Brits to arrive and stay put for the duration and it certainly makes financial sense to make the most of the facilities as this is what you are paying for."
People from the Midlands are the biggest fans of all-inclusive holidays, according to the research, while those in the south-east are the most likely to want to explore their destination.
