Gatwick to lift bag limit

Gatwick to lift bag limitGatwick Airport has announced that, from March 31st, its passengers will be able to carry more than one bag through security.

The hub will join a number of other airports in taking advantage of the government's relaxation of the luggage limit, which was announced on January 7th this year.

Gatwick did not immediately lift the restriction as it needed time to install new x-ray and archway technology in central search areas, developments that have now been completed.

The Department for Transport's size restrictions on baggage (56cm tall, 45cm wide and 25cm deep) will continue to apply at Gatwick.

Passengers flying from Gatwick were advised to check luggage arrangements with their airline before travelling, as some carriers operating from the airport have chosen to continue enforcing the one-bag rule.

Gatwick Airport handled more than 2.3 million passengers in February this year, which represented a 3.4 per cent increase on 2007.

All seven UK hubs operated by BAA saw a total of 10.2 million customers in February, which was a marginal decline on 12 months earlier.
