Wicked to get new wizard
Hit West End show Wicked will soon have a new actor filling the role of the wizard.Desmond Barritt will take over the part at the Apollo Victoria Theatre from June 9th, according to the London Theatre Guide.
Barritt is currently starring as Hector in Alan Bennett's The History Boys at Wyndham's Theatre and his other stage credits include HMS Pinafore, Twelfth Night, Henry IV and Eurydice.
He will take over from Nigel Planer and join a cast including Dianne Pilkington as Glinda, Oliver Tompsett as Fiyero and Susie Blake as Madame Morrible.
Wicked, which opened on September 27th 2006, has been a hit on the theatre scene. It relates the untold story of Elphaba and Glinda and how they came to be the wicked witch of the west and the good witch that so many people know from the Wizard of Oz story.
It recently celebrated its 600th performance and has now been seen by more than 1.2 million people.
