Gatwick prepares for busy Easter

Gatwick prepares for busy EasterGatwick Airport is preparing for a particularly busy Easter period over the coming weekend, with more than 600,000 people expected to pass through between March 20th and 25th.

Sunday March 23rd is expected to be the busiest day of the period, with around 108,000 passengers travelling through Gatwick.

Geneva, Malaga, Dublin, Tenerife and Orlando are set to be the most popular destinations from Gatwick this weekend, followed by Faro, Alicante and Edinburgh, with the Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona rounding off the top ten.

Airport operator BAA reminded travellers that the one-bag limit on carry-on luggage still applies at Gatwick, although this rule will be relaxed "very soon".

Gatwick is not the only UK hub expecting a busy Easter period, as Southampton Airport has said that it expects to handle more than 31,000 holidaymakers over the weekend.

Many will be travelling to sunshine spots such as Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Avignon, while others will be travelling to hubs such as Edinburgh Airport, Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow Airport to visit family.
