Stansted marks next step in extension
Stansted Airport has marked the latest phase of development in its £40 million terminal extension.A project currently taking place at the base will add an extra 5,900 square metres of floor space in the international arrivals area by the end of June.
The most recent milestone in the development was the completion of the main structure, roof diagrid and facade glazing stages of construction.
Stewart Wingate, managing director of Stansted, said he was "delighted" that this point had been reached.
He added: "Our exciting plans will transform the terminal building and improve even further the levels of customer service we provide to the tens of thousands of passengers who pass through Stansted every day.
"Putting the passenger first is at the heart of everything we do and this £40 million investment demonstrates the strength of this commitment."
Mr Wingate also outlined the environmental measures that are being put in place at Stansted, including biomass boilers burning renewable fuels to generate hot water, which is expected to cut carbon emissions at the terminal by 1.82 million kilograms per year.
