Birmingham toasts record-breaking February
Birmingham Airport experienced its busiest-ever February this year, with some 635,052 people passing through the Midlands hub.The 527,799 scheduled customers and 107,523 charter travellers that used Birmingham last month broke the previous February record and also represented a 9.2 per cent increase on 2007.
EU routes saw the largest year-on-year passenger growth of 15.4 per cent, while non-EU services carried 10.3 per cent more people and domestic connections saw an increase of 3.9 per cent.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport, said: "It was a record-breaking February for the airport, which is great news.
"We are delighted to have seen bmibaby launch its new route to Krakow in Poland recently, which once again increases the choice available to passengers flying from their local airport."
A number of popular holiday destinations saw steep growth in visitor numbers from Birmingham in February, including Faro (127 per cent), Palma de Mallorca (63 per cent) and Paphos, Cyprus (54 per cent).
