Liverpool hosts work of local artists
People travelling through Liverpool Airport over the coming months will be able to take in a number of pieces of work created by local artists. The airport launched its community art project on February 27th, which will see work displayed throughout the terminal as part of Liverpool's year as the European Capital of Culture.
Five large sections of wall space in public areas of the terminal have been allocated to the exhibition, to ensure that a large audience sees the work.
A number of artists have been invited to take part in the initiative, including local photographers, weavers and embroiderers as well as schools and community groups.
Neil Pakey, managing director of the hub, said: "John Lennon Airport is an emerging north-west public arts venue and therefore we are delighted to be giving local artists the chance to display their work to our thousands of passengers and visitors, especially during this Capital of Culture year.
"We hope that some of the local artists may be inspired by John himself, but regardless we are looking forward to working with a wide range of artists, offering people something different to look at alongside the current exhibits at the airport."
It was recently announced that The Taxi Project, a black cab fitted with a television in the passenger section, will go on display at Liverpool Airport this year.
This exhibit was part of the Turner Prize 2007 display at Tate Liverpool.
