Chicago rings the changes

Chicago rings the changesWest End musical Chicago is making a number of changes to its cast that will see almost all of the major roles filled by new performers from February 25th.

The most conspicuous alterations will relate to the two lead female roles, with Birgitte Hjort Sorensen to play Roxie Hart until April 27th and Rachel McDowall to take over as Velma Kelly until May 25th.

Sorensen already has experience in her new role, after she appeared in the Copenhagen production of Chicago last year, while McDowall has starred in The Producers and will soon hit screens in the film version of Mamma Mia.

Another cast change will see Zee Asha filling the role of Mama Morton until March 29th, before Claudia Shear takes on the part from March 31st to May 24th.

Chicago is currently taking bookings at the Cambridge Theatre until February 28th 2009.

In other West End news, Grease extended its run at the Piccadilly Theatre by seven months, meaning that it is now taking bookings until January 10th next year.
