Part of Turner Prize to go on display at Liverpool

Part of Turner Prize to go on display at LiverpoolLiverpool Airport has announced that it will exhibit part of the Tate Liverpool's Turner Prize 2007 exhibition in its terminal.

The Taxi Project was not created by one of the Turner Prize nominees but was exhibited alongside the participating works and became a popular part of the display.

The artwork is a working black cab that has been specially adapted to hold a large display screen with surround sound in the back.

A film is displayed on the screen, showing people on the streets of Liverpool airing their views about the city hosting the Turner Prize 2007 and being the European Capital of Culture in 2008.

Neil Pakey, managing director of Liverpool Airport, said: "Putting the taxi on display alongside the yellow submarine and our major exhibits by Harry Goodwin, Paul Saltzman, Tom Murphy, John McFaul and Portuguese artist Rigo helps to cement our commitment to the Capital of Culture year and to public arts in general.

"We do hope passengers take the opportunity to arrive at the airport early to enjoy the exhibits on display."
