Stansted visitors centre gets green light

Stansted visitors centre gets green lightPermission has been given for the construction of a new state-of-the-art visitors centre at Stansted Airport.

Uttlesford District Council gave a green light to a new facility that, when completed, will be able to host up to 40 visitors at one time.

The centre will feature a lecture theatre, will offer an insight into the world of airport operations and provide information about the work that takes place behind the scenes at Stansted.

Valda Edmunds, community manager for airport operator BAA, said it was "fantastic news" that planning permission had been granted and thanked the local council for its approval.

She added: "Stansted Airport is an integral part of the community, and the centre will be an important place for local people and aviation enthusiasts to meet.

"Not only will it offer stunning views across the airfield but it will act as an education resource for displays and activities for visiting school trips and community groups. What could be better to help to improve knowledge and understanding of Stansted Airport and aviation in general?"

The visitors centre will be located on the north side of the airfield near Stansted's long-stay airport parking facility.
