West-end welcomes new leading ladies

West-end welcomes new leading ladiesThe west-end has welcomed new leading ladies in two of its most successful shows - The Sound of Music and Monty Python's Spamalot.

Summer Strallen will take over the role of Maria from TV competition winner Connie Fisher from February 26th, according to the London Theatre Guide.

Strallen is a familiar face to many Brits owing to her part in TV soap Hollyoaks and her stage credits including The Drowsy Chaperone at the Novello Theatre in 2007 and Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly in 2005.

In Monty Python's Spamalot, Nina Soderquist will soon make her debut appearance as the Lady of the Lake.

The new cast member is another beneficiary of a TV talent competition, having won her part in the play through Swedish programme West End Star.

Soderquist will give her first performance as the mythical lady on February 11th.

Another new addition to the Spamalot cast will be made on March 3rd, when Ugly Betty and former Neighbours actor Alan Dale takes over the role of King Arthur from Peter Davison.

I'm probably Nina's biggest fan in the UK as I have been watching the shows on the website of the Swedish TV channel TV3. I knew she was going to win from the outset, and blogged about her to encourage Swedes to vote for her - see http://johnalexwood.blogspot.com/2008/02/will-nina-sderquist-become-spamalots.html and I will be there to watch her first performance on Feb 11th - Go Nina!
