Heathrow to host A380's arrival in Europe

Heathrow to host A380's arrival in EuropeHeathrow Airport will be the scene of a landmark development in European aviation in March as it welcomes the Airbus A380.

On March 18th, Singapore Airlines will fly the world's largest passenger plane from Changi airport to London Heathrow.

This inaugural service will represent the first time that the A380 has been used in commercial service in Europe.

Marvin Tan, the carrier's general manager for the UK and Ireland, said that the occasion will be "a proud moment not only for Singapore Airlines but also for British aviation", as the aircraft's wings were built in the UK and its engines manufactured by Rolls-Royce.

Huang Cheng Eng, the operator's executive vice-president for marketing, said: "The A380 will provide a capacity expansion on the popular Singapore-London route.

"For the first time, an aircraft larger than the B747-400 will fly this route, thereby meaning more seats without the need for more frequencies to what is already one of the world's busiest airports."

Singapore Airlines is currently in possession of two Airbus A380s, which its uses to operate a route to Sydney, Australia.
