Gatwick, Manchester top destinations from Malta

Gatwick, Manchester top destinations from MaltaMalta International Airport (MIA) has released its passenger figures for 2007, revealing that London Gatwick Airport and Manchester Airport were its top two destinations.

Gatwick had a 10.2 per cent share of total traffic from Malta, while Manchester saw eight per cent of the market.

Overall, the UK was the most popular destination for travel from MIA in 2007, with over 1.1 million passengers, or 37 per cent of the market, followed by Italy (15.7 per cent) and Germany (14.3 per cent).

Heathrow Airport was Malta's fourth most popular flight destination, while Birmingham Airport was at number ten in the list.

Overall, MIA handled 2.97 million passengers in 2007 and Air Malta was by far its largest carrier, with a 55 per cent share of the market.

This year, the airport expects to see more than 3.18 million passengers and will host new services including easyJet flights to London Gatwick and Manchester Airport.
