Stansted to boost transport links

Stansted to boost transport linksStansted Airport has announced that it is to provide its passengers with a wider network of transport links, with a new coach service running to Ipswich town centre.

The route, which will operate every two hours from spring 2008, will be the only direct public transport link between the airport and the town.

There has been a significant increase in demand for bus and coach services from Stansted Airport in recent years, with 550 scheduled departures now taking place every day to more than 50 destinations around the UK.

Nicola Hooper, Stansted's head of transport, said: "More than 40 per cent of our passengers use public transport to get to and from the airport, which is the highest figure for a major UK airport and one of the highest in Europe."

Guy McGregor of Suffolk County Council added: "This new coach service will offer an excellent direct link to the airport which, with a journey time of just over an hour, will be extremely convenient for people in the town."

Stansted Airport, which also offers airport parking facilities for people travelling by car, is the UK's third busiest air hub, handling 23.8 million passengers a year.
