Aer Arann: Regional airports superior
Aer Arann has claimed that regional air hubs such as Cardiff Airport and Birmingham Airport are a better option than congested London hubs.According to research released by the Liberal Democrats last August, there has been a 36 per cent increase in delays at Heathrow over the last ten years.
Aer Arann said that, as well as offering a quicker service, regional airports also help the environment by cutting down on unnecessary road and rail journeys.
There has also been an increase in the range of destinations available from smaller airports, with locations such as Toronto and Vancouver now accessible from regional hubs, as well as mainstream spots such as Paris and Barcelona.
Colin Lewis, head of sales and marketing at Aer Arann, said: "Regional airports provide quality service on your doorstep and there is no reason for travellers to put themselves through the unnecessary stress that is associated with capital city airports.
"Furthermore, regional airports have shorter taxiing distances which reduces fuel burn and carbon footprints."
Peter Philips of Cardiff Airport revealed that travellers can now fly to over 60 direct destinations and over access 400 connecting flights from the Welsh hub.
