Holidaymakers stranded at Glasgow Airport as firm goes bust

Glasgow Airport was the scene of tears and frustration today as would-be holidaymakers were left stranded when Lanarkshire-based ScotTravel went bust.

The holiday firm, which specialises in trips to Turkey, became the 15th holiday company to cease trading this year when it cancelled all future trips.

Holidaymakers who had booked with the company were advised not to go to their departure airports but for those already at Glasgow Airport it was too late.

Taxi 'strike' causes delays at Birmingham Airport

Passengers using Birmingham Airport may want to book online car parking to avoid some of the delays caused by a taxi driver strike this week.

Holidaymakers returning home were dismayed to find there were no black cabs waiting in the taxi rank.

Meanwhile, more than 300 taxi drivers caused chaos in the city centre when they circled the roads around New Street station.

Drug smugglers caught at Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport was the scene of an attempted drug smuggling operation this week when a woman was found to have cocaine under her wig.

Chermisa Lisa Daniel, aged 32 from St Lucia, was stopped by UK Border Agency officials after arriving at the London airport.

She was found to have one kilogram of cocaine hidden under her wig.

Stansted Airport gets a budget Royal visit

Stansted Airport had a royal visit today when Queen Sofia of Spain jetted in.

The 70-year-old royal made headlines when it was revealed she had flown with the budget airline Ryanair at a cost of £13.

She travelled for two hours from Santander to Stansted on the economy flight.

Stansted Airport criticises Ryanair's cost-cutting measures

A Stansted Airport spokesperson has said he is "struggling to understand" cost-cutting proposals being considered by Ryanair.

One of the ideas mooted was that passengers could load their own bags into the plane.

But a Stansted Airport spokesperson commented that the airline had not discussed it with them and said security and practical considerations would have to be taken into account first.

Boost for Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has had a boost to its Air Traffic Control Department, after it hired two experienced employees.

Passengers may be pleased to know that bosses at the Yorkshire airport hope the new arrivals will support the airport's plans for more air traffic.

Mike Morton, director at the airport, said the pair's "significant skills" would "further boost air traffic control at Robin Hood Airport".
